Our take on Safety

Training and Certification

All our staff members are thoroughly trained in safeguarding procedures to ensure they can effectively recognize and respond to any concerns about a child's safety. Key training and certifications include:

  • Safeguarding Certification: All staff members have completed Safeguarding training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to identify signs of abuse and understand the procedures for reporting concerns.

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Training: Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) have undergone specialized training to take the lead in managing safeguarding issues, supporting staff, and liaising with external agencies.

  • Operation Encompass: We are part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that aims to ensure that schools and early years settings are informed of any domestic abuse incidents involving their children. This allows us to provide immediate support to children who may be affected by such events.

  • Home Office Prevent Duty Training: Our staff members have completed Prevent Duty training, which is part of the UK's counter-terrorism strategy. This training helps staff to identify and support children who may be vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism.

Safeguarding Policies and Procedures

To maintain a safe environment, we have established robust safeguarding policies and procedures, including:

  1. Safe Recruitment Practices: All staff members undergo rigorous background checks, including enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks, to ensure they are suitable to work with children.

  2. Regular Training and Updates: Staff members receive ongoing safeguarding training to stay updated with the latest practices, policies, and legislative changes. We also conduct regular refresher courses to reinforce our safeguarding commitment.

  3. Clear Reporting Procedures: We have clear and accessible reporting procedures for staff, parents, and children to raise any concerns about a child's welfare. Our DSLs are always available to provide guidance and support.

  4. Child-Centered Approach: We prioritize the needs and views of the children in our care. By creating a safe and open environment, children feel comfortable sharing their concerns and experiences with trusted adults.

  5. Partnership with Parents and Carers: We work closely with parents and carers to ensure they are informed about our safeguarding policies and procedures. Regular communication helps us to identify any potential issues early and provide appropriate support.

  6. Safe Environment: Our premises are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for children. We conduct regular risk assessments and have strict protocols in place for health and safety.

Combating Abuse

Our commitment to combating abuse is unwavering. We take proactive steps to prevent, identify, and address all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect. Key measures include:

  • Education and Awareness: We educate children about their rights, personal boundaries, and how to stay safe. Age-appropriate activities and discussions help them understand what constitutes unacceptable behaviour and how to seek help.

  • Vigilance and Monitoring: Staff members are trained to be vigilant and observant, recognizing potential signs of abuse such as changes in behaviour, unexplained injuries, or emotional distress.

  • Support Systems: We provide a supportive environment where children can express their feelings and concerns. Our staff members are trained to listen empathetically and take appropriate action.

Prevent Duty

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, Noah's Little Ark is committed to the Home Office Prevent Duty. This involves:

  • Prevent Duty Training: All staff members have completed Prevent Duty training to recognise the signs of radicalisation and extremism. This training equips our staff with the skills to support and protect children who may be vulnerable to radicalization.

  • Promoting British Values: We actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. These values help create a safe and inclusive environment for all children.

  • Early Intervention: We take a proactive approach to identify and support children who may be at risk. By working closely with local authorities and other agencies, we ensure timely intervention and support for vulnerable children.

Ensuring Safety in Our Care

At Noah's Little Ark, we implement a range of measures to ensure the safety of children while they are in our care:

  • Supervision: Children are supervised at all times, with appropriate staff-to-child ratios maintained to ensure individual attention and safety.

  • Secure Premises: Our facility is secure, with controlled access to ensure that only authorised individuals can enter. We also have CCTV throughout the premises, a door camera with an intercom system, and a fenced garden area to ensure the safety and security of all children.

  • Safe Login and Logout Process: We have a stringent login and logout process to ensure that children are only released to authorized individuals. Parents or guardians must sign their children in and out at drop-off and pick-up times, and we maintain a comprehensive register to track attendance.

  • Health and Hygiene: We adhere to strict health and hygiene protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment. This includes regular cleaning, handwashing routines, and promoting healthy practices among children.

  • Emergency Procedures: We have clear emergency procedures in place, including fire drills and first aid, to ensure we can respond swiftly and effectively to any incident.

At Noah's Little Ark, safeguarding is a shared responsibility. By working together with parents, carers, and the wider community, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where every child can flourish.
